About Us

The Coffs Harbour Garden Club is a not-for-profit community organisation run by a team of gardening enthusiasts from the NSW mid-north Coast.

The roots of the Coffs Harbour Garden Club reach back in our local history to the Horticultural Society which started in October 1950.  The Society quickly established itself as a valuable local community organisation by helping to put on a Spring Floral Week in 1952 which featured displays of flowers in private gardens, shop windows and business premises with the week culminating with the Society's annual flower show and ball.  This Floral Week raised 500 pounds - $23,000 in today's money terms - an amazing feat!

Throughout the history of the Horticultural Society and what is now known as the Coffs Harbour Garden Club (since 1979) there has always been generous support towards community projects.  This has included contributions to the development of the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden and support for many other local community projects, as well as support for various national and international appeals.

Coffs Harbour Garden Club is also actively involved in other community activities including conducting our premier annual event, the Spring Garden Competition.  Our members also maintain the air-side gardens at the Coffs Regional Airport; conduct the horticulture competitions at the Coffs Show; participate in Clean up Australia Day each year; and do a variety of voluntary work in support of the Botanic Gardens.

The Club prides itself on organising interesting guest speakers for our monthly meetings. We also conduct a range of activities for our members including excursions to places of interest each month. Our meetings are jam-packed with valuable information about what is happening in our gardens, and we also have a competition table and trading table where members can bring plants, flowers, fruits, vegetables which are sold to other members at a small cost for the benefit of the club.

There have been over the years, members who have given so much of their time and effort for the Club.  In recognition of their efforts, these members have been made Life Members of the CHGC. This privilege has not been treated lightly by the Club, and only people who have worked tirelessly for the Club for at least 10 years, contributing significantly in that time to the successful operation and promotion of the Clubs' events and activities, have been successfully nominated for Life Membership. The following people have exemplified this level of service, as well as our motto of 'Friendship through Gardens',  and have been awarded Life Membership of the Club:

Adele and Don Patterson - 1993
Rhona Brookes - 2001
Helen Dengate - 2005
Jack Lawson - 2006
Pat Roser - 2006
Jeffery Burgoyne - 2008

We meet every third Saturday of the month Jan-Nov at the Botanic Garden Display Room, Hardacre Street, Coffs Harbour, commencing at 1.30pm unless otherwise mentioned (depending on availability of meeting venue).
